This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the film being covered here wouldn’t exist.

Spooky season is coming early this year, at least for Hercules Poirot. Not only did 20th Century Studios release a clip today featuring Michelle Yeoh leading a séance (check it out above), A Haunting in Venicethe latest Agatha Christie film adapted helmed by Kenneth Branagh—will also be airing early in select theaters across the U.S.

The early screenings are coming in three batches. The first is at five IMAX theaters on Saturday, September 9, where attendees can enjoy a catered reception before the viewing and go home with a special poster. Those IMAX locations are at AMC Kips Bay 15 (New York, NY), Universal Cinema AMC at Citywalk Hollywood (Los Angeles, CA), AMC DINE-IN Studio 28 (Olathe, KS), Cinemark Lincoln Square (Bellevue, WA), and Regal Hacienda Crossing (Dublin, CA). You can get tickets here.

On that Saturday, September 9, five Alamo Drafthouses will also be hosting early screenings. These events will have an interactive murder mystery experience where attendees will have the opportunity to solve a (fake) crime. The Alamos providing this experience are Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Downtown Los Angeles (Los Angeles, CA), Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Mueller (Austin, TX), Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Downtown Brooklyn (Brooklyn, NY), Alamo Drafthouse Cinema DC Bryant Street (Washington, DC), and Alamo Drafthouse Chicago Wrigleyville (Chicago, IL). Tickets for these events are here.

If you’re not close to any of the theaters above, you might have better luck on Wednesday, September 13, when there will be over a hundred early screenings across the country. At these screenings, you can get a free luggage tag (yay?) and also have a chance to win a trip to Venice, Italy. You can see if there’s a theater near you taking part at the link here.

And if you can’t make any of these early screenings, don’t fret: You can see Branagh’s Poirot get caught up in a spooky murder mystery when A Haunting in Venice comes out in theaters everywhere starting on September 15, 2023.
